The Idaho International Dance and Music Festival announces a name change, as well as a date and location change for 2013!
Join us this year as the Idaho International Summerfest beginning July 3 – July 13. See our exhilarating show being performed this year at the new Performing Arts Center at Madison High School.
Rexburg, the “Youngest Community in the Nation” (as declared by the 2010 Census), will make that youth come alive this summer! After 27 years of hosting the world-famous Idaho International Dance and Music Festival, this year’s event will be a broader and more culturally interactive festival—the Idaho International SummerFest.
Every summer hundreds of performers from around the world descend on Rexburg and nearby Burley. Dancers and musicians perform in various venues, from the Gala Performances to the Street Parade, Street Festival, youth culture classes and other events. There’s always dancing and singing in the streets, and new friendships and bonds created that have been known to last for decades.
In the past we have hosted nearly 300 different teams from 60 different countries. This year’s event includes teams from:
China – Traditional
China – Chinese Acrobats
Colombia – Traditional
Guatemala – Exciting
Israel – Modern
New Zealand – Grammy Awards Entertainer – LT Smooth
South Korea – Drum Group
USA – Culture Shock DC (Hip Hop Troop)
All right here in Rexburg, Idaho. We are truly ambassadors to the world.
Along with the traditional dance and music from around the world, this year’s Idaho Summerfest will showcase performers of all kinds and types. Summerfest will include many new events never before performed. This year’s festival targets youth and young families as well as our traditional audiences.
Festivities begin with the Summerfest 2013 Art Competition and Exhibition at Hemming Village
This Art Competition and Exhibit kicks off the festival beginning July 3 and running through August 3, 2013. The Art Competition is being brought to you by the Rexburg Area Chamber of Commerce through the sponsorship of Hemming Family Foundation. Anyone interested in participating in the event should contact the Rexburg Area Chamber of Commerce. Prizes awarded in seven different categories.
Open to all ages and abilities. Theme: “Celebrate a Place”
Another new event this year takes place on Saturday, July 6.
COLOR IN MOTION 5K
You can get a “running start” on this week’s activities by participating in Rexburg’s largest 5K event. Exactly that… It is your moving body plastered in an explosion of vibrant color with all your friends! The Color in Motion 5k gives you unforgettable fun and heaps of memories! By the end of the CIM5k your blank canvas will be brighter than ever–your clothes, health, and outlook on life will be changed for the better!
Monday, July 8 will bring us the Kick Off Party at 6pm at the football stadium behind the Madison Jr. High. This is a FREE event. Come to see the hundreds of performers who have been gathering in Rexburg and dance with them! See their dances and help teach them ours! Finish the night with Fireworks!!!!
All of this year’s events will be interactive and we invite you to get involved. Learn how to weave baskets made of banana leaves by native New Zealanders or play the ukulele at the new Summerfest in Smith Park on Saturday, July 13.
Participate in the biggest “giving back” opportunity that all of Rexburg has ever seen – our Humanitarian Service Project on Wednesday, July 10 at Smith Park from 1pm – 6pm. Make and collect items to be assembled together neighbor by neighbor, country by country with our arms around the world we will “give” to those who can’t come to Rexburg. Help us send items to orphanages in Ecuador and Africa.
Come to the traditional Gala Performances and kick back and listen to the cool Pacific tunes performed at the Grammy’s by LT SMOOTH. Or if your preference is a bit more modern, get your groove on with some of the best urban hip-hop events.
For those that prefer the more traditional events, there will still be the Street Festival and Parade on Thursday, July 11 as well as the youth culture workshops and Matinee on the same day.
